IFIC Experimental seminar: "Gamma-Ray Astronomy with the HAWC Observatory"

Description

The most extreme and violent phenomena in the Universe produce gamma-rays. Thanks to gamma-ray astronomy we can study the acceleration mechanisms and the environment of the cosmic accelerators. 

In this seminar I will review the current gamma-ray observatories with special emphasis on the HAWC observatory, which is located at 4100m altitude in central Mexico and has been operating since 2015.

I will also talk about the future perspectives of the field, and how gamma-ray astronomy will play a crucial role in multi-messenger astronomy, i.e., the study of cosmic sources combining the observation of different astronomical “messengers”.
