DESCRIPTION:The most extreme and violent phenomena in the Universe produce
  gamma-rays. Thanks to gamma-ray astronomy we can study the acceleration m
 echanisms and the environment of the cosmic accelerators. \n\nIn this sem
 inar I will review the current gamma-ray observatories with special emphas
 is on the HAWC observatory\, which is located at 4100m altitude in central
  Mexico and has been operating since 2015.\n\nI will also talk about the f
 uture perspectives of the field\, and how gamma-ray astronomy will play a 
 crucial role in multi-messenger astronomy\, i.e.\, the study of cosmic sou
 rces combining the observation of different astronomical “messengers”.
