Title: Scintillation dosimetry and counting for quality assurance and control in radiation treatments of cancer.

Summary: Quality assurance and control in cancer treatments using ionizing radiation, mainly radiotherapy and radio-guided surgery, require multidisciplinary approaches for a better management of the radiation and an optimal benefit-risk balance for the patients. The development of radiation measurement instruments that enable in-vivo assessment and control of radiation treatments in brachytherapy and radio-guided surgery is highly recommended by the American Association of Medical Physicists (AAPM), the European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology (ESTRO), and is supported by the Agència Valenciana de la Innovació (AVI).

In this talk I will address some lines and challenges that have drawn our attention in this field as nuclear and particle physicists, and I will present the contribution we are trying to develop at IFIC with the support of AVI, as a by-product of our basic research.
