#Student Seminar: Impact of gender in the (physics) research environment

by Judith Plenter (IFIC - UV/CSIC)

In the course of the last century all legal obstacles excluding women from being scientists have been dismantled. Nonetheless the percentage of women among researchers in physics is steadily low and even decreases towards higher positions. While we would like to believe that in academia discrimination is not an issue, there is a surprising amount of evidence to the contrary, with the main issue seemingly being unconscious biases. This talk is meant to raise awareness to some of these issues by showing the results of selected studies and discuss approaches to diminish the impact unconscious biases have on all of us.
