Descripción
The performance of muon reconstruction and identification in CMS has been studied on data collected in pp collisions at √s = 7 TeV and 8 TeV at the LHC. We present measurements of muon reconstruction and trigger efficiencies, fake rates, and momentum scale and resolution, and discuss methods developed to differentiate prompt isolated muons from decays of heavy particles (W/Z/H boson or top quarks) from non-isolated or non-prompt muons and other background sources. During the current shutdown period the muon detector is undergoing significant upgrades. Improvements to the trigger and reconstruction algorithms are under development to cope with the higher luminosity and pileup expected for the LHC Run II.
