Descripción
Unlike the Standard Model, the Two Higgs Doublet Model (2HDM) has a rich landscape of accidental global and discrete symmetries, whose spontaneous electroweak breaking may lead to non-trivial vacuum effects. In my talk, I will take the first step forward and analyze a number of generic symmetries and their associated topological defects which could be realized within the 2HDM. In particular, I will introduce a 6D Majorana scalar field formalism, in order to properly identify all possible accidental symmetries that may take place in the potential of the 2HDM. Then, I will show the spatial profiles of typical topological vacuum solutions, such as domain walls, vortices and global monopoles, as functions of the fundamental parameters of the theory. The potential implications of such solutions for the LHC will be briefly mentioned.
