The search for antideuterons in cosmic rays is considered a golden channel for probing the presence of dark matter annihilation in the galaxy. The PHeSCAMI project (Pressurized Helium Scintillating Calorimeter for AntiMatter Identification) focuses on developing novel techniques for the identification of antinuclei in cosmic rays. A particularly promising detection signature has been identified for antideuterons in plastic materials: their partial annihilation with a hydrogen nucleus results in the emission of an antinucleon, which subsequently annihilates after a delay of several nanoseconds. This process produces a double-annihilation pion-star pattern, offering a unique and time-correlated signature. The expected sensitivity of a potential circum-Antarctic balloon-borne detector based on this technique will be presented.
