Description

Electrons constitute an essential ingredient of the ATLAS Physics programme. Standard Model analyses, Higgs analyses and even BSM searches, all feature electrons in most important roles. They were in fact central in the discovery of the Higgs boson in the H→WW and H→ZZ decay channels and they are, in general, an indispensable tool for ATLAS precision electroweak measurements. Therefore, the ability to effectively reconstruct, identify, and isolate electrons with the highest possible efficiency and precision is essential to meet the goals of the ATLAS experiment.
The set of high precision studies that we are going to explore is collectively referred to as "electron performance studies" and will help us understand the importance of being (an ATLAS) electron.
