Description

In this talk I will consider storage rings, atoms and molecules as quantum sensors of axion-mediated forces. In the first part I will consider existing storage rings such as the electron and muon g-2 experiments as well as the planned proton storage ring as probes of axion-mediated monopole dipole forces. Later, I will show that electron spin precession experiments using atomic and molecular beams are well-suited for axion searches thanks to the presence of co-magnetometer states and single-shot temporal resolution. I will discuss experimental strategies to detect axion gradients from localised sources and the earth, taking ACME III as a prototype example. Other possibilities including atomic beams, and laser-cooled atoms and molecules will be briefly discussed.
