Extended scalar sectors can yield baryogenesis at the EW scale. This is generally related to their providing the needed departure from thermal equilibrium (absent in the SM) via a first-order EW phase transition. Yet, BSM sources of CP violation are also required for baryogenesis, despite being very strongly constrained experimentally by electric dipole moments (EDMs). In this talk I show that extended scalar sectors may offer a solution to this problem too, by yielding an enhancement of CP violation in the early Universe that is a catalyzer for baryogenesis while being in agreement with EDMs. I will discuss the main ingredients of such new physics scenarios in several different incarnations, as well as their phenomenological consequences. Finally, I will discuss a related avenue to achieve EW baryogenesis that relies on the breaking of hypercharge in the early Universe.

This IFIC Seminar has received funding/support from the GVA Research Project "Understanding non-perturbative Phenomena in fundamental physics" (PROMETEO/2021/083)
