Abstract:
With superb resolution, high rate capabilities and extreme radiation hardness, pixel detectors have been the commonly chosen technology for particle tracking in HEP detectors for the past 20 years.
A large variety of silicon pixel detector technologies have been developed to address the specific needs of diverse use-cases. There are, though, common detector needs: Thin sensors, small pixels, precise timing, complex in-pixel processing capabilities together with low power consumption while being operated in high radiation environments.
As next move in HEP projects is towards larger integration of CMOS devices, in this talk I will describe the present state in monolithic pixel detector techniques and their suitability for particle detection in future collider experiments.
