Summary: X-ray radiotherapy plays a significant role in cancer care, being used alone or alongside other treatments in 50% of treatment plans, curative and palliative. We are developing Monolithic Active Pixel Sensors (MAPS), to be placed upstream of the patient, attached to the head of the radiotherapy linear accelerator (LINAC), to monitor treatments in real time. MAPS are ideal due to their high resolution, radiation tolerance and fast readout. They can be thinned to <30 um meaning that >99% of the therapeutic treatment beam is delivered to the patient. One complication is the electron contamination that arises from the interaction of the X-ray beam with the LINAC collimators and the air, obscuring the measurement of the X-rays. In this talk I will present methods of overcoming this to measure the dose to the patient, investigated in GATE/GEANT4 simulations and experimentally. I will also discuss tracking of the beam collimator positions in dynamic treatments.
