Top polarization as a window to New Physics

In top quark production, the polarization is decided by the chiral structure of couplings and is likely to be modified in the presence of any new physics contribution to the production. Hence, it is a good discriminator for new physics models where these couplings have a chiral structure different than the Standard Model (SM).   In this talk, I will discuss top polarization in the boosted regime, and the context of simplified dark matter models. I will discuss how we can construct probes of the polarization of a top quark decaying hadronically using easily accessible kinematic variables, such as the energy fraction and/or the angular correlations between the decay products. Based on the polarization-sensitive angular variables, we construct asymmetries that reflect the top quark polarization. I will demonstrate the robustness of these variables for a set of new physics processes that give rise to boosted and polarized top quarks. I will also discuss the top quark polarization-sensitive angular observables, which along with the cross-section, could be used to probe the CP property of the mediator, in simplified dark matter models.
