Inflation has emerged as a uniquely successful theory for the desription of the very early evolution of the universe. It provides a sensible explanation for why the universe is so big, so old, and so close to homogeneous. It also makes specific predictions for the form of the inhomogeneities, which in inflation are caused by quantum processes during the inflationary expansion. These primordial inhomogeneities have been measured with exquisite precision by the Planck Cosmic Microwave Background satellite. I will discuss inflation in light of Planck, and discuss future prospects, such as the potential for the detection of primordial gravitational waves.
