Dark matter remains to be the single paradigm which explains a handful of unexpected gravitational observations ranging from galactic up to cosmic scales. It is a fundamental ingredient of the LCDM model and currently an active field of research. If dark matter is of particle nature and interacts similarly to all known constituents of matter, it may annihilate or decay producing a detectable flux of standard model particles. If this fluxes eventually overcome astrophysical backgrounds it enables us to detect indirectly an event of dark matter origin. Gamma rays are one of the possible channels and a promising messenger candidate. We focus on these and explore the different possible signatures of dark matter in the cosmic photon flux. Then we explore in more detail the phenomenology of gamma-ray arising from cascade processes involving scalars or fermions.
