I will review the effective theory approach for studying the interactions of dark matter with the Standard Model sector, and use this to motivate a scenario where the main coupling involves the neutrinos. I will discuss the viability of such a scenario, and then consider the UV completion of the theory, touching upon the implications for the neutrino sector.
