The  Delta I=1/2 enhancement rule in non-leptonic kaon decay is one of the classic problems in particle phenomenology, and an excellent arena to understand the interplay between electroweak and strong interactions. I will briefly review the technical difficulties that have to be faced by theoretical studies, and the status of our understanding of the problem. I will then focus on our attempts to understand the anatomy of the strong dynamics involved, and in particular the role played by the charm mass scale.
