Descripción
Progress in experimental particle physics depends crucially on being able to carry out experiments at high energies and high luminosities, which implies that future experiments will take place in very high radiation areas. In order to perform these complex and expensive experiments new radiation tolerant technologies are being developed. Chemical Vapour Deposition (CVD) diamond is one for future particle sensors. As a detector for high radiation environments CVD diamond benefits from its very low leakage current, low dielectric constant, fast signal collection and ability to operate at room temperature. I will present the state-of-the-art in diamond sensors and their radiation tolerance. I will give examples of their use in CDF, the ATLAS Beam Conditions Monitor (BCM) and their planned use in an upgrade of ATLAS: the Diamond Beam Monitor (DBM).
