Descripción
In November 2009, after about 20 years of planning and construction, the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, Geneva, collided for the first time two proton beams at a center of mass energy of 900 GeV and a world record of 2.36 TeV. During the following weeks, the ATLAS collaboration recorded about half a million proton-proton collisions at 900 GeV with the ATLAS detector fully operational. This data has been extensively used and studied to calibrate, align and understand the performance of the detector.
This presentation will give an overview of the ATLAS detector, the exciting first data taking period and the excellent results obtained in terms of detector performance, alignment and calibration.
