Descripción
Detailed measurements and studies of the flux of muons in the atmosphere represent a subject of particularly interest. This is mainly due to the fact that measurements of the muon flux in the atmosphere are indirect measurements of the neutrino flux and therefore they can be used to improve their calculation, which is important for experiments that measure neutrino oscillations. The comparison of fluxes of muons and other particles at different altitudes with simulated data, is not only essential to predict the atmospheric neutrino flux, but also play an important role in the analysis of data taken at the very high energy air shower experiments like AGASA, HiRes and Auger. In this talk I will report a comparison between the flux of muons in the atmosphere measure by the CAPRICE98 experiment and simulation performed with the air shower simulation program AIRES. The influence of the geomagnetic field and the uncertainties in the primary spectrum on the development of the muon flux in the atmosphere will also be outlined in this talk.
