#StudentSeminar: Probing New Physics across lifetimes

Descripción

The Standard Model of particle physics, despite its tremendous success, cannot explain neutrino masses and dark matter. A plethora of new physics particles have been proposed to answer these open questions, but they are yet to be discovered in the preferred hunting ground of particle physicists, the LHC. One reason could be that their lifetimes lead to them decaying outside the range of conventional searches, thus necessitating alternative experimental approaches to probe efficiently.

In this talk, we will take a closer look at three specific new physics models that span the range of particle lifetimes: heavy neutral leptons, leptophilic Z’ bosons and a dark matter candidate arising from the Singlet-Doublet Model. We will discuss their discovery potential in both collider and large-scale detectors, thereby underlining the importance of a complementary approach.

P.S.: The speaker promises to keep jargon to a minimum in the talk, unlike the abstract.
