DESCRIPTION:As we push the boundaries of high-luminosity physics at the LH
C\, our discoveries are no longer just limited by how much data we can col
lect\, but by how well we understand our detectors. Hadronic jets are ever
ywhere in the ATLAS experiment\, serving as vital pieces of almost every m
ajor physics analysis. Because of this\, even a tiny mismatch in how we me
asure jet energies can completely stall our progress.\n\nIn this seminar\,
I will take you behind the scenes of how the ATLAS collaboration achieves
world-class jet energy scale (JES) precision\, focusing on the crucial in
-situ calibration stage. We will look at how we use well-understood refere
nce objects—like $Z$ bosons and photons—to balance against jets\, allo
wing us to correct the subtle differences between our data and simulations
. Finally\, I’ll connect the dots between these technical calibrations a
nd their massive payoff for precision physics. Using the top quark mass me
asurements as a prime example\, we’ll explore how mastering the JES or b
JES allows us to chip away at our dominant systematic uncertainties and pu
sh forward the precision needed to stress-test the Standard Model.\n\nhttp
