DESCRIPTION:Baryon number is an accidental symmetry of the Standard Model\
, and its violation would be a clear sign of new physics\, with nucleon de
cay providing its most striking experimental signature. In this seminar\,
I will discuss how flavor symmetries can guide the study of baryon-number-
violating (BNV) effects in the SMEFT. After briefly reviewing the main nuc
leon-decay signatures and the relevant dimension-six operators\, I will pr
esent their classification under different flavor-symmetry assumptions and
the resulting phenomenology. In particular\, I will show that in some fla
vor scenarios the interplay with tiny neutrino masses allows proton-decay
bounds to be compatible with BNV scales in the multi-TeV range. I will als
o comment on simple UV completions.\n\nhttps://indico.ific.uv.es/event/856
