 lepton-hadron and hadron-hadron collisions provide\, through their sensiti
 vity to generalised parton distributions (GPDs)\, information on the 3D di
 stribution of quarks and gluons inside the nucleon\, as a function of thei
 r longitudinal momentum fraction and transverse position. These concepts w
 ill be discussed and a brief overview of existing and planned measurements
