DESCRIPTION:A deep underground laboratory is under construction at the sit
 e of the former Homestake gold mine in South Dakota\, USA.  Construction o
 f underground caverns at the Sanford Underground Laboratory at Homestake i
 s advancing and is expected to be completed by early 2012. Two experiments
 \, the Large Underground Xenon (LUX) detector to search for dark matter an
 d the MAJORANA Demonstrator to search  for neutrinoless double beta decay\
 , will begin installation in 2012. The Homestake site is also the proposed
  location for the Deep Underground Science and Engineering Laboratory (DUS
 EL) in the USA. DUSEL is aimed to house experiments in long baseline neutr
 inos (from Fermilab)\, in next generation dark matter and neutrinoless dou
 ble beta decay searches or detection and potentially a diverse program in 
 underground physics\, biology and geosciences. The status of the Sanford L
 aboratory program and of the proposed DUSEL facility will be described.\n\
