Nonlinear models are fundamental in systems biology, yet their complexity often limits analytical solutions and real-time prediction. In this talk, I will introduce the Carleman linearization method—an old but still valuable mathematical technique that transforms nonlinear differential equations into simpler, linear ones that are easier to work with. To illustrate how it works, we’ll look at its application to a classical epidemiological model: the Susceptible–Infected–Removed (SIR) model.
