DESCRIPTION:I present a concise review of where we stand in particle physi
 cs today. After an introduction where a general  overview is sketched\, I 
 come to the central question of the Higgs: most open problems in particle 
 physics are\, directly or indirectly\, related to the electroweak symmetry
  breaking mechanism\, which has not been unveiled experimentally sofar. Th
 e LHC has been designed to clarify this problem. We discuss the physics of
