DESCRIPTION:Stellar evolution is known to serve as a sensitive probe of ph
ysics beyond the Standard model (BSM). Using a bottom-up effective field t
heory perspective\, I will discuss the stellar cooling effects associated
to Higgs-portal scalars and large extra dimensions\, both of which arise n
aturally in the context of many BSM scenarios. Employing the formalism of
thermal field theory to compute in-medium self-energies and mixing rates\,
we will see that scalars and KK gravitons with masses smaller than the pl
asma frequency in the stellar core can be efficiently produced by resonant
mixing with in-medium electromagnetic excitations\, and that this previou
sly neglected effect gives the dominant robust contribution to supernova a
nd/or red giant cooling. I will discuss the resulting constraints on new s
calars and extra dimensions\, together with the implications for future ex
 periments and observations.\n\nhttps://indico.ific.uv.es/event/8349/
