The GRIT international collaboration is developing a new detector system—GRIT—designed for the optimal study of nuclear reactions induced by low- and intermediate-energy radioactive ion beams. The device features a compact, highly segmented silicon array that provides large solid-angle coverage and is optimized for seamless integration with leading gamma-ray spectrometers such as AGATA, EXOGAM2, GALILEO, and PARIS.
It is also meant to offer state-of-the art particle identification for improved reaction channel separation hence physical background reduction. Native integration of special targets such as the Helium cryogenic targets is also aimed for. GRIT is composed of an ensemble of double-sided silicon detectors offering a near-4π solid-angle, a new digital electronics enabling the implementation of pulse shape analysis techniques for particle identification, and associated mechanics with the required integration capabilities. This configuration will represent the state-of-the-art for silicon-based systems dedicated to direct reactions studies in inverse kinematics.

The upcoming GRIT Workshop will focus on the current status of the detector’s construction and on the discussion of physics cases for future experimental campaigns at host laboratories.

After the last edition held in Gif-sur-Yvette, France, the 9th edition will take place at the  Col·legi Major Rector Peset, University of Valencia, Spain, from 1 to 3 December 2025.
