The origin of the ultra high energy cosmic rays

The recent results obtained by the Pierre Auger Observatory on correlations between the ultra high energy cosmic rays and the locations of nearby active galaxies will be described. These findings provide a new way to look at the Universe, opening the era of charged particle astronomy.
