DESCRIPTION:More then ten years have passed since the first observation of
  Bose-Einstein condensation in trapped ultracold gases. A\nbrief overview 
 will be given about experiments and theories. Specific examples will be di
 scussed about the characterization of superfluidity and coherence properti
 es of condensates by means of light scattering and/or optical lattices. Re
 cent developments will be also presented in the physics of ultracold fermi
