This talk takes a lighthearted and humorous look at the real-world challenges we faced during the analysis of a β-decay experiment at GSI, using the Total Absorption Gamma-ray Spectroscopy (TAGS) technique. From ion identification issues to detector noise and distorted spectra, it’s a hands-on journey through the joys and frustrations of measuring β-strength in nuclei near N=126, close to the so-called 3rd peak of r-process. While things didn’t always go as planned, many problems turned out to be (more-less) fixable—making this not just a story about data analysis headaches, but also about learning (and trying to laugh) along the way.
