In this talk, I will give a general overview on how to
perform new physics searches using the Standard Model Effective Field
Theory (SMEFT). I will start with a brief introduction to effective
field theories and the most important tools that are needed for such a
task, with special focus on global fits. After that, I will apply all
these ideas to a real world example. The final objective will be to
set limits on a large number of SMEFT parameters making use of a
diverse set of measurements taken at high precision experiments.
