Description

MACACO is a scintillator-based Compton camera for proton therapy monitoring developed at
IFIC, with monolithic LaBr_3 crystals coupled to silicon photomultiplier arrays.
Motivated by the past in-beam tests, the need to improve the response of our Compton
camera leads to assess the influence of the background events on the Compton camera and
to study which parameters require strengthening to improve the reconstructed images.

This seminar will discuss, in an introductory way, the basics of Compton camera
detection, the type of events that we may encounter during proton irradiation and noise
reduction strategies desirable to enhance the performance of Compton cameras in such
conditions.
