DESCRIPTION:Medical Physics Seminar - Seminario de Física Médica\n\nTitl
e: Multimodality imaging in oncology: improving its clinical implementati
on by medical physics research. \n\nAuthor: Montserrat Carles\, PhD\n\nAf
filiation:\n\nMontserrat Carles Fariña has a Bachelor in Physics and a Ph
D within the field of Positron Emission Tomography. She is accredited as a
Medical Physics Expert in Germany and she is currently working as a postd
octoral researcher at the La Fe Health Research Institute. She is leading
four projects focused on the use of multimodality imaging in oncology and
working in collaboration with the Oncology Department of the University Me
dical Center Freiburg\, in Germany.\n\nSummary: \n\nThe aim of the Biomedi
cal Imaging Research Group (GIBI230) from La Fe Health Research Institute
is to promote and develop the use of imaging techniques and image biomarke
rs to optimize the diagnostic and therapeutic efficiency in clinical care
research and in animal experimentation. One of the research lines focuses
on the optimization of multimodality imaging - computed tomography (CT)\,
positron emission tomography (PET) and magnetic resonance (MR) - for its u
se in radiation oncology. The three main branches developed by the group i
n this context will be briefly summarized\, for a non-clinical expert audi
ence. The three branches are experimental phantoms measurements for PET/CT
/MR image quality control\, respiratory motion compensation in hybrid PET/
CT and PET/MR systems and PET tumor segmentation and radiomic models for p
 ersonalized treatment.\n\nOnline link: https://conectaha.csic.es/b/fer-gny
