We live in a 3D world, but we capture and represent it in 2D. Lightfield imaging is an emerging technique that permits capturing 3D information of the objects, and display them in 3D without the need for special glasses. In this presentation, the principles of lightfield imaging are explained, as well as its application in 3D photography, microscopy and display. Also, a commercial device for converting conventional microscopes into lightfield microscopes is presented.
