To overcome some limitations of conventional widefield (WF) imaging, structured illumination microscopy (SIM) has been introduced, in which a non-uniform excitation pattern is used. The 3D structure of this illumination distribution is the key element for the expected improvement in the imaging performance. Recently, we have proposed several prism-based setups that raised the tunability of the illumination pattern. Here we present a general model for them when an extended quasimonocromatic primary source is used.
