Electric dipole moments (EDMs) of fundamental particles are sensitive to new sources of CP violation beyond the Standard Model. In this talk I will briefly review the experimental status of EDM searches and introduce the key aspects of any phenomenological analysis using these observables. Concrete examples include a new experimental proposal to search for charm-baryon EDMs at the LHC; and the phenomenology of EDMs from the Yukawa couplings of colour-octet scalars, in the Manohar-Wise model.
