The Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA) will be the next generation instrument operating in the very-high-energy (VHE) gamma-ray regime. It will provide a leap forward in astroparticle physics, with unprecedented sensitivity in the energy range between 20 GeV and 300 TeV. It will be composed of two observatories, one in each hemisphere, with tens of telescopes of different sizes in each location. The construction of the northern observatory has started, with the first telescope prototype of the Large-Sized Telescope (LST) already in place, with a significant Spanish contribution in its construction and commissioning. The preparations for the southern observatory are already taking place and onsite telescope construction will start in the near future. In this presentation, I will provide an overview of the scientific prospects for CTA and synergies with other multi-messenger observatories.
