DESCRIPTION:\n The currently most precise measurements of the top quark
mass are obtained from kinematic reconstruction obtained at hadron collid
ers. The observables designed to make these measurements cannot be calcula
ted using analytic methods in QCD and therefore rely on multipurpose Monte
-Carlo event generators. As a consequence\, the interpretation of the meas
ured top quark masses is theoretically difficult and still an open issue.
In my talk I explain the theoretical issues inherent to this problem and I
show some preliminary results from a MC study which illustrates that the
shower cut plays an important role. At this point it is not yet fully unde
rstood\, up to a conceptual upper bound\, how large the uncertainty is whe
n one interprets the result as measurements of the pole mass. I then expla
in one approach to shed some light on the interpretation problem using the
concept of MC calibration with top mass sensitive observables which can b
e computed systematically at hadron level using analytic methods for boost
ed top quarks at the LHC.\n\nhttps://indico.ific.uv.es/event/3213/
