DTSTART;VALUE=DATE-TIME:20170228T140000Z DTEND;VALUE=DATE-TIME:20170228T150000Z DTSTAMP;VALUE=DATE-TIME:20260424T112559Z UID:indico-event-2913@indico.ific.uv.es DESCRIPTION:\n Gamma-ray observations of the Galactic bulge and center with the Fermi Large Area Telescope (LAT) show an excess of photons at 1-3 GeV energies.  This was pointed out by many group since 2009\, and recen tly confirmed by the Fermi LAT collaboration.  Interestingly\, the emissi on is compatible with a signal from annihilating dark matter.  This gener ated significant excitement in the WIMP dark matter community\, and it mak es it urgent to understand the true origin of the emission.\n I will su mmarize our current knowledge about the GeV bulge emission. A leading astr ophysical interpretation of the emission is that it comes from thousands o f hitherto unknown millisecond pulsars (MSPs) in the Galactic bulge.  I w ill discuss in some detail a wavelet fluctuation analysis of the gamma-ray emission from the inner Galaxy\, which we did recently to test this hypot hesis.  We found strong support for the MSP hypothesis.  However\, syste matic uncertainties remain large\, and a clear detection of the bulge MSPs in radio observations will be necessary for a solid confirmation.  If as significant number of MSPs is found in the Galactic bulge\, this will red uce\, and possibly eliminate\, the need for more exotic explanations in te rms of dark matter annihilation.  I will close with our plans to search f or these sources in radio\, using MeerKAT (planned for 2018) and telescope s like the GBT and the VLA.\n \n Connect to:\n http://reunion.uv.es/webinar280217/\n\nhttps://indico. ific.uv.es/event/2913/ LOCATION:Connect to http://reunion.uv.es/webinar280217/ URL:https://indico.ific.uv.es/event/2913/ END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
