DESCRIPTION:Fragmentation functions are non perturbative objects which are
 \nneeded to absorb consistently the singularities which appear in a\npertu
 rbative QCD calculation. These objects are only known by\ncomparing the ex
 perimental data and the theoretical predictions.\nMoreover\, these objects
  are also important in order to test the\nfactorization of the theory whic
 h impose also the universality of\nthem.\nIn this talk\, we review the the
 oretical tools which are used for the\nextraction of the parton-to-pion fr
 agmentation functions. Then\, we\nshow the results on the global NLO QCD f
 it to the data coming\nfrom single inclusive electron-positron annihilatio
 n\, semi-inclusive\ndeep-inelastic scattering and hadron-hadron collisions
