DESCRIPTION:In this seminar we present the stress-energy tensor as the fu
ndamental object in the study of a quantum field theory on a curved backg
round. We discuss its convenience with respect the somehow misleading con
cept of particles\, and also the consequences from the implicit gravitati
onal interaction\, such as additional divergences even for free fields. T
hese ones suggest the development of new different renormalization techni
ques in curved space-time\, rather than the usual normal-ordering employe
d in Minkowski. In this talk we will focus mainly on the so called adiaba
tic scheme\, and compare it to the DeWitt-Schwinger formalism. Some new f
eatures from the renormalization theory will be derived (conformal anomal
ies)\, and some applications in cosmology will be presented to show the p
 ower of this method.\n\nhttps://indico.ific.uv.es/event/2371/
