DESCRIPTION:The gauge/gravity correspondence is a technique which allows t
 he study of strongly interacting quantum systems by using higher-dimension
 al gravity. This correspondence (also known as "holographic duality" or "A
 dS/CFT correspondence") has led to new insights into subjects such as gaug
 e theories\, condensed matter physics\, hydrodynamics and quantum informat
 ion theory.  I will review in simple terms the present status of the corre
 spondence\, as well as its origin in the context of string theory.\n\nhttp
