DESCRIPTION:Loop quantum gravity is a non perturbative approach to the qua
 ntization of general relativity that borrows many ideas from the quantizat
 ion of Yang-Mills theories. It emphasizes a background independent point o
 f view adapted to the diffeomorphism invariance of general relativity. The
  talk will review the basics of the formalism in its current form --in par
 ticular the classical Hamiltonian formulation and its quantization-- and d
