DESCRIPTION:The Monte Carlo Array Processor(MAP) at Liverpool University h
 as been fully operational for 5 months. The system consists of 300 PC's co
 nnected via fast ethernet. Details of the performance of MAP will be prese
 nted together with issues arising from the first 6 months of operation. Th
 e integration of MAP into the proposed new metacomputer architecture (The 
 GRID) will discussed. GRID will provide the new paradigm for computing in 
 the coming decades and represents a step forwards comparable to the intern
 et\, with comparable consequences for all scientific (and commercial) acti
 vities. Specific plans for the scaling of MAP to the coming extreme requir
 ements of the next generation of high energy physics experiments will also
