DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Nerea Salor Iguiñiz\nA Positron Emission Tomography
(PET) scanner is a device widely used in \nhospitals to obtain 3D images
of the metabolic activity of the body. It \nis used for cancer detection
\, as well as for heart and brain diseases\, \nand other physiological pr
ocesses.\n\nPETALO is a project that consists of a PET system based on liq
uid xenon \n(LXe) instead of crystals as the scintillator material. LXe i
s a very \ngood candidate for use in PET due to its scintillation propert
ies: high \nlight yield and fast decay time. PETALO uses SiPMs for readou
t and fast \nelectronics from PETsys to be applied in TOF-PET technology.
\n\nIn this talk\, I will first introduce the principles of a PET scanner\
, \nand then I will focus on explaining how our first prototype PETit\,
\ndeveloped following the PETALO concept\, works. Finally\, I will present
\nthe results on energy and time resolution obtained with this prototype

These measurements are also sensitive to the uncertain properties of the f

DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Pietro Butti (U. Southern Denmark\, QTC)\nAbstract:
We address the signal-to-noise problem in lattice field theory by recast
ing it as a problem in variance-optimal transport. The exponential degrada
tion of the signal-to-noise ratio is identified as a consequence of poor o
verlap between the base and target distributions in a source reweighting s
cheme. We introduce an infinitesimal transport map and derive a perturbati
ve expansion of the KL divergence that determines the optimal velocity fie
ld. The first-order term vanishes by Stein's identity\, and the problem re
duces to a Poisson equation for the generator of overdamped Langevin dynam
ics. For interacting theories\, the Feynman–Kac formula provides a forma
l solution\, establishing a connection to linear response theory and the f
luctuation-dissipation theorem. We present preliminary numerical results f

DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Javier Marañon González (IFIC (UV-CSIC))\nQuantum
field theory in curved spacetime provides a powerful framework to study qu
antum effects in cosmology and black hole physics. Unlike in flat spacetim
e QFT\, curvature requires renormalization already at the level of the fre
e theory. This yields a renormalized stress-energy tensor for quantum fiel
ds on a given background\, capturing effects such as Hawking radiation of
black holes and particle production in expanding universes. The next step
is to include the effect of quantum fields on spacetime geometry\, the so-
called backreaction problem.\n\nIn this seminar\, I introduce this framewo
rk\, highlight its main challenges\, and present effective two-dimensional
black hole models that address them while retaining the essential quantum
features. In two dimensions\, the renormalized stress-energy tensor can b
e written in closed form in terms of the metric\, transforming the semicla
ssical equations into a second-order system of PDEs. This makes it possibl

DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Alberto Ramos (IFIC CSIC-UV)\n\nThe strong nuclear f

o atomic nuclei. Despite its fundamental importance\, precisely determinin
g its strength has remained challenging because quarks are confined within
hadrons and cannot be isolated for direct measurement.\n\nIn this talk I
will review the efforts of the ALPHA collaboration to compute the strong c
oupling using lattice quantum chromodynamics\, a first-principles numerica
l approach that requires no model assumptions about hadron structure. Rath
er than focusing on computational details\, I will emphasize the key theor
etical ideas that have enabled record precision with controlled uncertaint
ies.\n \nThis result bridges two regimes: the low-energy domain where quar
ks are confined into hadrons\, and the high-energy regime where perturbati

DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Aurelio Amerio (IFIC)\nRoughly 85% of all matter in

ing it dark and seemingly invisible\; thus\, we call it dark matter. Yet\,
we have a wealth of gravitational and cosmological phenomena pointing to
its existence—phenomena that are not entirely and satisfactorily explain
ed by alternative theories.\n\nIf dark matter annihilates or decays into S

and gamma rays will be the protagonists of this talk.\n\nIn this seminar\
, I will talk about how we have managed to NOT find dark matter signals
across a broad series of searches. We will explore some of the most compel

the existence of a matter–antimatter asymmetry and non-zero neutrino mas

DESCRIPTION:Speakers: James Keeble (Bielefeld University)\n\nIn this talk\
, I will discuss the application of so-called Neural Quantum States\, whic
h use machine-learning techniques to represent quantum many-body wave func
tions. These approaches have been shown to represent tensor-network states
and states with volume-law entanglement efficiently. However\, the key pr
operty underlying the limitations of Neural Quantum State techniques remai
ns an open question.\nWithin quantum information theory\, among all possib
le unitary transformations that can be applied to an \nN-qubit state\, the
re exists a subgroup known as the Clifford unitaries. Although these trans
formations can generate entanglement\, they are entirely classically simul
able and therefore provide no quantum advantage. As a result\, quantifying
the non-stabilizerness of a given computational approach is important for
assessing its expressibility in representing arbitrary quantum many-body
states.\nI will focus in particular on recent results highlighting the lim
itations of Neural Quantum States in representing the ground-state wave fu
nctions of atomic nuclei in the nuclear shell model within variational Mon
te Carlo calculations\, thereby testing the limits of classical computing
 in strongly correlated quantum systems.\nhttps://indico.ific.uv.es/event/8

ornerstone of modern materials science\, driven by the demand for novel op
toelectronic devices and emerging quantum technologies. To model these mat
erials accurately\, researchers rely on ab initio (first-principles) calcu
lations. By solving the Many-Body Schrödinger equation using only fundame

properties via Density Functional Theory (DFT) to quasiparticle excitation
s using the GW approximation\, and finally\, the description of excitonic
effects through the Bethe-Salpeter Equation (BSE). Furthermore\, we will t

putationally expensive and often yields results that are unwieldy to use a
nalytically. In this talk\, I show how symbolic regression offers a practi
cal alternative: lightweight analytical formulas derived directly from NLO
simulation data. Using the PySR package\, we recover closed-form expressi
ons for the full set of angular coefficients as functions of transverse mo
mentum\, rapidity\, and invariant mass. Beyond efficiency\, these expressi
ons shed light on the underlying physics in a way that neural networks can
not. Our results demonstrate that symbolic regression can produce accurate

DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Ryan Plestid (CERN)\nWhen dealing with bound states
(e.g.\, atoms or nuclei) many calculations are most efficiently carried ou
t using old-fashioned perturbation theory. It is difficult\, however\, to
see how gauge invariance manifests at the level of the amplitude (this is
related to the non-conservation of energy in OFPT). \n\nIn this talk I w
ill explain how a partial-fraction trick can reorganize amplitudes into a
form that is manifestly gauge invariant. Remarkably\, when applied to the
Compton tensor\, the resulting amplitude decomposes into four separate ga
uge invariant pieces that are naturally organized around a heavy-mass exp
ansion. I will comment on potential implications for atomic\, nuclear\, an
d hadronic physics applications involving QED. \nhttps://indico.ific.uv.e

DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Francesco Paolo Di Meglio (IFIC Valencia and Univers
itat de València)\nSymmetries are the daily bread of modern particle phys
icists. In a variety of scenarios their breaking is associated with the fo
rmation and expansion of bubbles of true vacuum in what is called a first
order phase transition. In this context\, Electroweak Baryogenesis\, a me
chanism proposed over 40 years ago\, takes advantage of Electroweak symmet
ry breaking and offers a way to address the baryon asymmetry of the unive
rse\, as all three Sakharov conditions can be realised on the walls of sa
id bubbles. Additionally\, the dynamics of bubble collisions could provide
interesting gravitational waves signals that could be detected in the yea
rs to come. \n\nAlthough the Standard Model contains all required ingred
ients\, it has long been established that the electroweak phase transition
does not proceed via nucleation of bubbles\, rather it is a smooth crosso
ver. Additionally\, the smallness of the CP violation in SM is insufficien
t to account for the observed baryon asymmetry. \n\nExtending the SM sca
lar sector can\, however\, drastically modify the dynamics of symmetry b
reaking and provide a richer vacuum structure. In this talk\, I will ana
lyse one such extension\, the Zee model\, first proposed to generating ne
utrino masses at loop level via the introduction of additional scalar degr
ees of freedom. We shall show how in this framework the electroweak phase
transition actually proceeds via bubble nucleation\, and how it could be s
trong enough to generate the observed baryon asymmetry of the universe. \

r antineutrino flux and spectrum measurements—and their comparison with
model predictions—will be held at IFIC (CSIC-University of Valencia) fro
m 4 to 8 May 2026.\n\nWhile significant experimental and theoretical pr
ogress has been achieved over the past two decades\, the foundations of re
actor antineutrino flux models still rely on the integrated beta-spectrum
measurements performed by Schreckenbach et al. at ILL in the late 1980s. M
ore recent measurements of the 235U/239Pu beta-spectrum ratio by Kopeikin
et al. at the Kurchatov Institute have revealed discrepancies of approxima
tely 5%\, suggesting potential normalization issues in the original ILL da

exceptional potential to improve our understanding of long-standing quest

DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Julien Froustey (IFIC)\nAccurately modeling neutrino
flavor oscillations in global simulations of core-collapse supernovae or
neutron star mergers remains a major challenge\, albeit a potentially cruc
ial one for making reliable predictions. Indeed\, it is now widely recogn
ized that flavor instabilities\, in which neutrino distributions computed
in classical transport frameworks can be dramatically reshaped by flavor
 conversion\, are ubiquitous in such environments.\nIn this talk\, I will d
escribe recent progress in understanding and modeling these instabilities\
, focusing on the development of subgrid models of neutrino flavor transfo
rmation. In this approach\, insights from detailed studies of local quantu
m neutrino transport are used to formulate effective prescriptions that mo
dify classical neutrino distributions\, enabling their incorporation into
large-scale simulations. Over the past year\, the first supernova and neu
tron star merger simulations including these subgrid treatments have been
performed\, a key step toward fully incorporating neutrino physics into su

DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Aritra Gupta\nCore-collapse supernovae serve as powe
rful probes of light\, weakly coupled particles\, such as dark photons. Th
e conventional SN1987A cooling bound constrains the dark photon mass-mixin
g parameter space by requiring that the luminosity from the proto-neutron
star core not exceed the observed neutrino emission. In this work\, we rev
isit these limits by including the effect of dark matter (DM) captured ins
ide the progenitor star before collapse. The trapped DM acts as an additio
nal scattering target for dark photons\, modifying their free-streaming le
ngth and\, consequently\, the supernova cooling rate. We perform a self-co
nsistent analysis for both annihilating and asymmetric DM scenarios\, inco
rporating light-mediator effects in the capture rate calculation. For anni
hilating DM\, the equilibrium density remains too small to affect the boun
ds significantly. In contrast\, symmetric DM can accumulate to large densi
ties\, leading to the formation of a “dark photosphere” that suppresse
s the dark-photon luminosity. The results presented are intended as a proo
f-of-principle demonstration of how astrophysical dark matter populations
can alter supernova cooling constraints and do not provide precision excl
usion limits on any given model.\nhttps://indico.ific.uv.es/event/8558/

DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Oscar Naviliat-Cuncic (Michigan State University)\n
\nThe existence of new mechanisms of CP violation is one of the necessary
conditions to explain the matter-antimatter asymmetry in the Universe. Sea
rches for new mechanisms of CP (or T)-violation are being carried out in p
recision measurements of electric dipole moments of particles\, nuclei\, a
toms\, and molecules as well as in properly selected correlations in decay
processes. Positronium (Ps) is a purely leptonic state that decays into p
hotons. The observation of a CP violating correlation associated with the
decay process\, at the current level of sensitivity\, would provide a sign
ature of physics beyond the Standard Model. A CP violating correlation can
be formed in Ps decay\, involving the tensor polarization and the momenta
of the two highest energy photons in the three-photon decay of ortho-Ps.
We have designed and built a new apparatus to search for CP-violation in o
rtho-Ps decay with an order of magnitude improved sensitivity relative to
previous work. This talk will present the driving elements for its design
and optimization\, which includes a photon detector array and the Ps forma
tion medium and will discuss the improved sensitivity of the design.\n\n\n

e simulation of the ATLAS detector is a critical piece of computing infras

n as well as upgrades. This colloquium offers an overview of the structure
of Monte Carlo simulation in the ATLAS experiment\, including the accurat
e description of geometry and materials and the modeling of physics proces

are now being undertaken to increase the data taking rate by a factor of 7
-10\, putting stress on computing resources. The advent of artificial inte

particle transport paradigms which are essentially unchanged for decades.

DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Duarte Feiteira (Helsinki University)\n\nParticle pr
oduction in the Early Universe is one of the cornerstones of modern cosmol
ogy and plays an important role in dark matter phenomenology. In this talk
\, I will first discuss the gravitational production of scalars during inf
lation. I will compare Bogolyubov coefficient and Starobinsky stochastic a
pproaches\, showing that they only agree in the limit of infinitely long i
nflation. High-scale inflation is very efficient in particle production\,
leading to constraints on the existence of free\, light\, and stable scala
rs: such particles are viable only if their masses are below the eV scale
or if the reheating temperature is in the GeV range. These constraints mot
ivate scenarios in which dark matter is produced via low-temperature freez
e-in. In this framework\, I will consider warm Higgs portal dark matter. I
n scenarios where the Standard Model thermal bath never reaches high tempe
ratures\, dark matter production can be suppressed. This allows for a sign
ificant dark matter-Higgs coupling\, enabling warm dark matter detection v
ia Higgs decay at colliders. I will further discuss the strong Lyman-α bo
und on the dark matter mass\, excluding masses below 50-100 keV\, and show
how the shape of the warm dark matter momentum distribution is highly non
-thermal and not captured by the commonly used αβγ-parametrization.\n\n

DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Abbas Gauhar (Indian Institute of Technology (BHU)\,
Varanasi\, India)\nWe develop a unified framework based on nonlinear seq
uence transformations to probe the asymptotic structure of perturbative QC
D beyond fixed-order expansions. Focusing on the hadronic $\\tau$-decay co
rrection $\\delta^{(0)}$\, we employ complementary approaches—Levin-type
transformations and Shanks transformations implemented via Wynn’s $\\va
repsilon$-algorithm and its generalizations\, to resum the divergent FOPT
series and extract higher-order information. These methods generate ration
al approximants that encode the large-order behavior of the series\, yield
ing stable and consistent predictions for the coefficients $c_{n\,1}$ acro
ss independent transformation schemes.  We show that Levin-type transform
ations\, through explicit remainder estimates\, and Shanks-type transforma
tions\, via elimination of leading asymptotic errors\, provide complementa
ry reconstructions of the same underlying structure. Together\, they captu
re renormalon-driven factorial growth and provide a data-driven approximat
ion to the underlying Borel behavior without explicit multi-loop input. Th
e resulting resummed predictions for $\\delta^{(0)}$ exhibit improved conv
ergence and reduced truncation uncertainties. Our results establish sequen
ce transformations as a systematic\, model-independent bridge between fini
te-order perturbation theory and its asymptotic completion\, with direct i
 mplications for precision QCD phenomenology.\nhttps://indico.ific.uv.es/ev

DESCRIPTION:Note: Due to the total solar eclipse and high seasonal demand
in Valencia\, participants are strongly encouraged to secure accommodatio
n as early as possible.\n\nOn 12 August 2026\, Spain will witness the firs
t total solar eclipse visible from mainland Europe in almost 30 years. Bey
ond its beauty\, a total eclipse is a striking reminder of a central theme
in astrophysics: magnetic fields shape what we see\, from faint plasma st
ructures to bursts of energetic particles and coherent radio emission.\n\n
Like the Sun\, many nearby stars and ultracool dwarfs are magnetically act
ive across the electromagnetic spectrum. Over the last decade\, new wideba
nd\, high-time-resolution radio facilities have transformed the field: aur
oral bursts\, rotational modulation\, and broadband polarimetry are now be
ing used as quantitative probes of magnetic geometry\, particle accelerati
 on\, stellar winds\, and star–planet interactions—and they are opening
a realistic path toward detecting and characterising exoplanetary magneto
spheres.\n\nTo mark this rare celestial event\, this conference will take
place in Valencia\, Spain from 10–12 August 2026\, bringing together an
international community working on stars\, ultracool dwarfs\, and radio e
xoplanet science. To foster deep discussion and sustained interaction\, at
tendance will be capped at 50 participants. A dedicated eclipse field sess
ion will allow participants to share the totality experience together as p
art of the conference week.\n\nKey themes include:\n\n\n	\n	Stellar winds
and star–planet interaction.\n	\n	\n	Stars and ultracool dwarf magnetism
.\n	\n	\n	Radio exoplanet searches and what magnetospheric detections woul

DESCRIPTION:Our understanding of the Universe is at a turning point with t
he predictions of the standard cosmological model and the observations fro
m different surveys are showing tensions in several key areas. The disagre
ement is expressed in the value of cosmic expansion as well as in the grow
th of large-scale structure in the Universe. New cosmological surveys\, ma
ny of which are European\, may expose tension in additional areas of the c
oncordance model. The question of cosmological tensions can be confronted
in a number of ways. Firstly\, survey data needs to be further analyzed fo
r potential systematic uncertainties or biases. Secondly\, there have been
numerous advances in approaches to data analysis and statistics\, some of
which provide less dependence on cosmological models to make cosmological
parameter estimates. Lastly\, there are a plethora of new proposals from
fundamental physics which range from novel neutrino physics to dark energy
proposals (and others) which may contribute to a solution to the cosmolog
ical tensions problem. These represent the three research themes through w
hich cosmological tensions will either be alleviated or resolved.\n\nCosmo
 Verse@Bilbao 2026 (15 September – 17 September 2026 & 18 September Manag
ement Committee Meeting) is the fourth annual conference in a series of co
nferences that aim to establish a link between the different research area
s in cosmology with the main focus on challenges of tensions in cosmologic
al survey data.\n\nThis conference is organized within the COST Action ini
tiative CA21136 – Addressing observational tensions in cosmology with sy
stematics and fundamental physics (CosmoVerse).\n\nThe first conference ca
